National Consultations on Emergency Preparedness in the Caribbean

Drawing from knowledge and expertise of disaster risk reduction (DRR) actors in the Caribbean, Right Insights is supporting UNICEF Belize in conducting national consultations in Belize, Guyana, Jamaica and Barbados to develop a Protocol for the Integrated Protection of Children and Adolescents During Disasters.

This research will ensure that a child-focus lens in integrated into a multi-sectoral response in the region during preparedness, response and recovery.

Engaging Stakeholders in Academia

In February 2017, the University of Belize, held a stakeholder consultation to review proposed changes to its Natural Resources Management (NRM) program. One of the proposed changes was dissolving a 2-year program and building on the present 4-year programs.  Over 31 participants were engaged in a 1-day consultation facilitated by Right Insights.  By the end of the day, several key recommendations were drafted to ensure that the program reviews considered a market-driven approach.

Building Resilient Communities

Right Insights partnered with the Belize Tourism Board to build capacity among hoteliers around the country by addressing disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation (CCA).  Up to date hoteliers in 6 destinations (Placencia, Punta Gorda, Caye Caulker, Belize City, San Ignacio, and San Pedro) have completed training in contingency planning to assist with emergency preparedness.
